Entrants can only be considered for one category in a given year, and are not eligible for the same or any lower-tier awards if they have won in the past. Fewer still come away with a Lindy.Īwards are given out across six categories: Homebuilts, Warbirds, Vintage, Ultralights, Seaplanes, and Rotorcraft. Few aircraft, in comparison to the field, come away with any sort of award. JHundreds of gorgeous, striking airplanes arrive at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh each and every year in hopes of winning a Lindy Award.

Just a word of encouragement on the Tiger Moth tooling front, there's still enough demand that some people (me at least) are resorting to such measures to get one. I hope that by flying the Tiger Moth she'll be better prepared for flying the PT-17 when the time comes. Also found the Pico servos elsewhere and possibly the ESC. I'll probably end up 3D printing struts and landing gear components. I stumbled on a number of replacement parts for the Tiger Moth online (fuselage, empennage, upper and lower wings, cowling etc) online and have decided to put one together for her out of those parts. I've been encouraging her to build up her skills prior to flying that plane by flying other models. (She has had some prior experience with a small Electrify Champ.) The first plane she was interested in was the Tiger Moth but when finding out that it was discontinued, got herself the PT-17 model. I certainly wish to encourage the interest. My wife has decided as of this weekend that she wants to fly R/C with me, preferably park flyers since we recently moved near an ideal site for those. I'm late to the game in this discussion, apologies. Light and floaty for thermals, or heavy and fast for fun? Many of our planes can be configured differently. When it comes to some of the gliders, it comes down to how you would like to use the plane. We are working to add this data to as many of our aircraft kits as possible to help folks out. Our most common question from the web site is what gear will work with a given plane. We are leaning towards more complete aircraft when we have the option. We made sure we spec'd out a motor that would adapt to anyone's use and still had a good low price.

But the biggest demand we have is for a full kit with the servos, speed control and motor and props. The Slow Stick can use just about any motor or servos that will bolt up. The only change we made was to include the brushless motor mount. I'm of the same believe as you guys, bring them in as No Power System (NPS) as we have done with the Slow Sticks. I think the distributors also prefered to sell more expensive items that would bring in more profits. Also, the hobby in general changed and people had more options and they started to want more complete aircraft. I think they didn't do much marketing and things fell apart. It's hard to say what exactly happened to GWS sales, at one time they were distributed by all of the big places like Horizon, Tower, Great Planes and were in nearly every hobby shop. When we put the Slow Stick back into production they had not made any for over 5 years.
